Heart Healthy Diet

What is a heart healthy diet? We all don’t want to suffer a heart attack or stroke and get diabetes or cancer. So, how do you eat healthy for your heart? Basically, it’s a  very low or no fat vegetarian diet full of fruits and vegetables. It’s the key to permanent weight loss and better health. A vegetarian diet has been proven to reverse heart disease.

  • No oil! Eliminate all oil. All oil, saturated or not is bad for your arteries. Don’t fry your food or add oil to your salad. Not even Olive Oil. Oils are low in nutrition and harmful to your health. They also cause inflammation. Make your own salad dressing without oil, using apple cider vinegar and spices
  • You get all the protein you need with fruits, vegetables, brown rice and beans. You don’t need animal products no matter what anyone tells you
  • No animal products: that means no meat or animal flesh or parts (fish and chicken, included) and dairy, as the protein damages the interior lining of the blood vessels and arteries. There is also the problem with the bad cholesterol
  • No high fructose corn syrup. It makes for a fatty Liver which can also damage your blood vessels and arteries
  • You may feel tired on a vegetarian diet, because you are eating lower calories. When you exclude all the dairy, meat, and oils you used to eat, you need to make up the calories by eating brown rice, beans, and more fruit. Vegetables are low in calories and you can’t live on them alone just like you can’t live exclusively on fruit. Fruits provide the calories, and the greener vegetables provide nutrients fruits don’t give you enough of
  • Don’t juice or drink smoothies, as these have too much sugar. Eat them, instead. The fiber binds the sugar for slower absorption in the body. Sugar highs and lows aren’t healthy
  • Eliminate all snack and processed foods. If it comes in a bag, box or can, get rid of it. Give it to a charity or simply throw it away. They have way too much salt, sugar and fat. Refined grain acts just like sugar in the body!
  • I noticed I gained weight when I ate bread, corn tortillas, and cereal. When I cut them out, I started losing weight again. I would eliminate these if you are having problems losing weight. If you are not getting enough calories, you might be craving these along with sugary snacks like cookies and candy, etc. You just have to start training yourself to eat fruit to get the calories you may be lacking. Stay away from the chips, too!
  • Don’t eat handfuls of nuts and seeds; raw, roasted, salted or unsalted
  • Avoid alcohol
  • Avoid coffee or tea
