Nutrition and you: Allergic reactions, health and weight gain

nuttrition, weight gain, food allergies, elimination diet

Let’s talk about nutrition and you (me, too.) I have learned nutrition is directly related to weight loss and health. It is also related to living longer, such as those thousands of people here and throughout the world who eat a plant based whole food diet. Go to living to 100 and beyond.

The good nutrition…

  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Legumes like lentils and beans
  • Fruits like berries
  • Flavor enhancers like onions and mushrooms

The bad nutrition…

  • Animal products like meat
  • Refined oils like olive and vegetable
  • Processed foods like eating out
  • Refined foods like white flour
  • Junk and snack foods like chips, cookies, crackers and candy, etc.

I have learned what my weight and health problems were caused by. It was eating the wrong foods. Yes, wrong foods always taste good, (and, are addicting) but the consequences are eventually very severe. In the end, we will suffer a heavy price eating unhealthy food. Yet, we benefit greatly when we change our diets over to real whole healthy food.

One ailment or condition I am very familiar with is inflammation caused by foods. If you have mysterious aches and pains, the food you are eating could be the cause of it. How would you know?

When we eliminate certain foods which are suspect we may discover we feel better without them in our diets. Food can do good and bad to your health. It can give you great health or cause unhealthful weight gain. It depends upon what foods you eat.

For example, try not eating bread for a couple of days and see how you feel. Then, reintroduce it and take note if you start feeling badly once again. You have probably heard about people who can’t eat dairy products or legumes like peanuts. They can actually get ill or even die eating certain foods they have an allergic reaction to.

Leave the cow's milk to who it was intended: Baby cows. Also, you might want to let Chipmunks eat all the peanuts...

Therefore, be mindful how your body feels shortly after you eat something. You could be suffering from a food induced allergic reaction.

‘Each year, millions of Americans have allergic reactions to food. Although most food allergies cause relatively mild and minor symptoms, some food allergies can cause severe reactions, and may even be life-threatening.

There is no cure for food allergies. Strict avoidance of food allergens — and early recognition and management of allergic reactions to food — are important measures to prevent serious health consequences [1 fda.gov].’
