There is a ‘secret’ to weight loss and better health no one seems to know. Yet, it is relatively simple to grasp. It took me a while, but now I know what to eat and not.
You eat all you want of it and still lose weight. It’s the food. I eat a combination of cooked, steamed and raw. I discovered plant based whole food is key to health, weight loss and longer life for those on this planet who eat similarly.
But, this doesn’t mean that because it’s healthy you eat a ton of avocados, nuts and seeds. They will make you fat. That’s what happens to some vegans and vegetarians who don’t eat enough healthy carbs like potatoes and fruit. They are starving for calories, so they are drawn to empty calorie food.
They become overweight or underweight and sickly looking. Even though soft drinks, snack foods and candy are not animal products, they still are unhealthy to eat.
A gram of fat has nine calories. Complex carbs have only four per gram. And, when you drink all that sugar in your soft drink, your body can’t handle the load.
Insulin turns the sugar into fat you store in your body. No good for health, especially if it is the visceral fat surrounding your belly and organs.
So, especially do without oils like olive oil and vegetable oils. And, avoid fructose because it’s not good for the liver and bad for your cardiovascular system.
‘Making sudden, radical changes to eating habits such as eating nothing but cabbage soup, can lead to short term weight loss. However, such radical changes are neither healthy nor a good idea, and won’t be successful in the long run. Permanently improving your eating habits requires a thoughtful approach in which you Reflect, Replace, and Reinforce [1 cdc.gov]’.
Although, we do need essential fats that are in avocados, nuts and seeds, we should limit them to one or two avocados each week and a few seeds and nuts sprinkled on top our salads. The nuts and seeds help the body assimilate nutrients more efficiently from the green salad. Another reason not to eat too many is lectin poisoning.
The secret to weight loss is eating lower calorie, higher nutrient, fiber rich plant based whole food. This also means it has to be low fat, low salt and low sugar food you prepare yourself.
We want better health and longer life too, right? Of course. There are many studies proving this is the fringe benefit people get who eat this way. But, you also have to enjoy your meals. Eat those foods you like that are also healthy. For example, I love salads, beans, potatoes and rice. Go to suggested recipes, here.
