Healthy Snack: Red Pepper Hummus on Organic Brown Rice Cakes

If you want to lose weight, you likely would like to feel better, too. This means you are interested in your current and future state of health. What foods we eat makes the difference between
hospital visits and feeling great.

There’s lots of skinny unhealthy people as well as the obese who drink soft drinks, eat candy bars and a bag of chips, and I am sure you don’t want to be one of them. Therefore, we must watch what we eat and avoid high calorie foods that simply aren’t nutritious and detrimental to our health.

In our pursuit of healthy weight loss, it’s a good idea to create an arsenal of snacks that are going to do more good than bad to you. This is because most of us get hungry late at night and tend to crave the addictive snack and junk foods full of salt, sugar and oil.

If we don’t shop when we are hungry, we won’t buy things we know we shouldn’t. And, if they are not there in our refrigerators and cupboards, we can’t eat the wrong food.

What I do is make my own garbanzo beans ahead of time and freeze them for future hummus. It’s a low fat, low calorie snack that will take the place of all that junk food we ordinarily would eat too much of.

Of course, you can slice up vegetables like cucumbers, celery, carrots and use pita bread to dip in the hummus if wheat doesn’t bother you.

Making your hummus shouldn’t take more than about twenty minutes. It’s a real treat when those hunger pangs strike late at night! Then, if you are still hungry after that, have a bowl of warmed brown rice and berries with rice milk and a spoonful of sugar. Good night and sweet dreams!
