An Evolving Diet: From Weight Loss to Ultimate Health

When I started Weight Loss Blogging, I didn’t realize there was a direct connection between losing weight, achieving better health and living longer. All I wanted at the time was to feel better. I had no energy and felt sluggish most of the time. But, as I continued losing more and more weight, I sensed there was another change coming.

Yes, somehow I knew my health would improve by lowered blood pressure and weight loss, but I didn’t realize the impact eating foods which were nutrient dense would have. As I learned more, I saw I didn’t know what I was in for.

How could I? I didn’t eat this way before. No doctor told me what to eat. Most don’t know basic principles of nutrition like I have recently learned through my own trial and error.

I think what I am currently doing is fine tuning my diet. I am unsure about if I should be eating some things or not. And, I back slide to the old eating habits from time to time, as you will too. This is something you will also have to contend with from a lifetime of eating the ‘old foods’.

For example, birthdays and holidays don’t help much, because when relatives cook things, it’s not nice to be so strict about it you start saying ‘no’ to everything they put in front of you. I don’t think it’s that they necessarily want to sabotage my health or progress, I think it more they don’t understand the principles of nutrition.

How would they? Even though they are suffering from ailments, conditions and diseases, they don’t connect it directly to the food they have been eating most all their lives. I know they are not interested in changing their ways, so I keep silent and don’t preach.

Preaching never does anything but turn people off. The best move anyone can make is take care of himself, set a good example and explain the benefits of eating a vegetarian diet if anyone asks. Believe me, someone will notice how you eat and make a comment.

Now, I have lost the weight I wanted. It maintains itself automatically and I don’t have to count calories. If you stick with a plant based whole food diet, you don’t have to worry about that kind of stuff, anymore.

After you lose the weight, the second step is questioning if you are feeling better. If you are not, you would want to figure out why this is. Although, you will never know your life expectancy, you will know you will live longer eating more fruits and vegetables.

You will likely be saying goodbye to colds and the flu, sore throats and all the minor possibly even major aches and pains you ‘used to have’. These may all become things of the past as long as you stay focused on eating plant based whole food resisting the many great tasting unhealthy food temptations.
