Healthiest Natural Diet: Alkaline or Acid pH?

I feel I have extensively studied diet as it affects heath. But, one never will know it all. Because as soon as you think you do, food throws a curve at you and you find out you were wrong about something. Weight loss, health and longevity has to be approached through reason, common sense and an open mind.

Furthermore, I have not found the official healthiest diet the prevailing health authorities or professionals all agree with, with few exceptions. Everything I have researched does appear to point to adopting a plant-based whole food diet for ultimate weight loss, health and long life.

I think our bodies were ‘engineered’ to eat largely plant based food which has been uncooked. I don’t think a little cooked food hurts, although I do believe the focus needs to remain on fresh whole raw intact uncooked fruits and vegetables for best health, weight loss and longest life.

‘The human body has an amazing ability to maintain a steady pH in the blood with the main compensatory mechanisms being renal and respiratory. Many of the membranes in our body require an acid pH to protect us and to help us digest food. It has been suggested that an alkaline diet may prevent a number of diseases and result in significant health benefits [1 ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3195546/]’.

To conclude, although it might be healthier for us to lean toward the more alkaline diet, acid foods do provide benefits. For example, the acid nuts, seeds, and beans and legumes should be considered added to the diet. Possibly limited amounts of certain ‘whole’ grains and potatoes included. Most importantly, don’t miss out on nutrition by forfeiting all acid foods.

But, do learn to listen to your body in how it feels after you eat something. We all know meat and dairy with its bad cholesterol is not healthy and sugary oily junk and snack foods, too. And, as we age, we will all have to be even more vigilant about our overall lifestyle to stay healthy.

In ending, to have total control knowing what’s in the food you eat, you will have to prepare it yourself from scratch using fresh organic fruits and vegetables devising your own favorite recipes.
