If you feel tired on a vegetarian diet, you may need to eat more plant-based whole food. Your solution may be as easy as adding more calories. But, where do you get healthy calories when you used to get ‘bad’ calories in abundance from foods like meat, dairy and oils?

In the beginning, when I was learning what to eat and not, I had trouble losing weight. I got stuck around 185 lbs. Why was this so? I was hungry all the time because I wasn’t getting enough calories. So, I craved snack foods like chips and crackers.
I loved bread, too. I found that when I eliminated these, I was back on tract steadily losing five or more pounds each month. And, once I learned to eat the right foods that filled me up and satisfied me for hours, I became happy and content with my new plant-based whole food diet.
Nowadays, I eat low sugar fruits like blackberries, strawberries and cantaloupe. I limit my simple carbs and get my energy mainly from complex carbohydrate (resistant starch) from beans, potatoes and rice.

I feel there is no need for low nutrition grains, especially refined grain like in breads, tortillas, crackers and chips. I gave all these up for a few good reasons listed directly below…
Don’t eat these…
- Gummy refined grain products cause cavities
- Lack nutrients unlike what they claim
- Crackers and chips are empty calorie junk and snack food
- Can result in constipation
- Grain fiber can harm intestines
- Promoting possible leaky gut
- Elevate blood sugar too quickly
- Can have added oil, sugar and salt
- Don’t eat anything with fructose, sugar, maple syrup, honey, molasses
I don’t eat dried fruit and drink fruit juices, anymore. The only thing I cheat on is drinking one green smoothie a day. I watch sugar because I want to limit triglycerides. What are they?
If you happen to have high triglycerides, you should reduce eating simple carbohydrates. Among these are alcoholic beverages like wine, beer and hard liquor. Also limit your intake of refined white flour products, white sugar and fructose.

Be sure to read labels carefully. Added sugar can cause inflammation. Make all your meals yourself without processed or refined food (your new recipes, here..) This includes eating dried fruit, using honey, maple syrup and molasses. Avoid rich desserts like pies and cakes and don’t drink fruit juice or overeat high sugar fruits like bananas, apples and pineapple.
