Sometimes, it takes a while to learn which foods are those that are bringing you harm. I know because I have experimented over and over again returning to wrong foods. For example, I know now that I can’t eat refined grain like bread, oatmeal and cold cereal. This includes quinoa and millet, etc. Why? They cause me inflammation. I figured it must be their gluten. Every grain has it’s own gluten, not just wheat.
I also can’t use refined sugar, honey (raw and uncooked or not,) and maple syrup. No sweeteners. I tried stevia, but I don’t like it because it seems to have a lingering bitter taste to it. And, as with artificial sweeteners, I also am not convinced stevia (which is extracted from plant leaves) is healthful in the end.
It’s hard giving up those things you either love or are addicted to. Sugary drinks I never had trouble giving up, but you may be different. Coffee was hard for me to give up, but I discovered I needed cream and sugar never liking drinking it black. I had headaches for weeks until I began drinking organic Japanese loose leaf green tea.
‘The current study provides preliminary evidence that not all foods are equally implicated in addictive-like eating behavior, and highly processed foods, which may share characteristics with drugs of abuse (e.g. high dose, rapid rate of absorption) appear to be particularly associated with “food addiction” [1 ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4334652/]’.
More often than not, my wife and I crave sweets for some reason late at night. We are those who can’t have any snacks and junk food in our cupboards. Solution? Don’t buy it and definitely don’t go to the store hungry. Always eat before you go so your stomach doesn’t take over your brain.

Most of us have a lifetime history of eating the wrong foods. Why? It’s called tradition, custom and culture. When we tire of taking prescription drugs and medication because we discover they do not cure, we may begin searching for alternatives.
I believe the main cause our pain, suffering and health problems is the food we eat. It’s called the standard American diet overflowing with fat, protein, salt and sugar. Solution? What worked for me was putting more plant based whole food into my shopping cart.
