Why I Stopped Taking All Vitamin And Mineral Supplements Except For This One…

Why would a health conscious guy like me not take his vitamin and mineral pills each day like a good boy? That’s a very good question that needs a sensible answer.

Answer: I haven’t stopped completely, because I do take a vitamin B12 pill a couple times each week. I do though take a particular kind, which is Methylcobalamin.

Methylcobalamin, according to Jarrow formulas® (which is what I take) is a superior form of B12 supporting brain cells and nerve tissues. Apparently, the ‘Methyl’ is the better choice for the prevention and treatment of B12-related conditions. Jarrow, on the bottle reads ‘Methylcobalamin is better absorbed and retained than other forms of B12’ such as Cyanocobalamin.

I was sure in the 1970’s vitamin and mineral pills were essential (I wasn’t a vegetarian in the old days.) I bought my supplements from ShakleeⓇ. I was convinced these top quality supplements worked. But, I didn’t like the aftertaste, the belching and the nausea which always followed. I continued to take them because the ‘mainstream media advertisers’ told us they were good for you.

‘It is usually better to get the nutrients you need from food, rather than a pill. That’s because nutrient-dense foods contain other things that are good for you, like fiber [1 nia.nih.gov/health/vitamins-and-minerals]’.

Years later, I heard that when you isolate vitamins taken from natural sources, they can be poisonous to our system. A good example is when one takes too much vitamin A. Studies have shown supplements may increase a person’s risk of heart disease, cancers, and cause a premature death.

‘Eventually, I figured mother nature was smarter than man will ever be and put my faith in her hands eating plant based whole food. Real food. Each fruit and vegetable has everything one needs in precise quantities. My only supplements these days are a daily green smoothie and B12 vitamin pill a few times each week since I don’t consume animal products anymore’ ~ your author

Currently, I put my trust in the natural packages vitamins and minerals come in, and that’s real plant based whole food made by our creator. But, when a person ingests a single isolated concentrated nutrient, chemical imbalances can be created within bodily cells. Studies show possible increased risk of disease and early death.

‘Vitamin and mineral pills didn’t prevent me from a ruptured appendix that almost killed me in my early thirties. That’s when I stopped taking vitamin and mineral pills altogether…’ ~ your author
