You’ve heard the old expression ‘you are what you eat’? It is so true. Your health and life depends upon what you eat. While we are bombarded by pizza and hamburger commercials, it makes us think this food is OK for human consumption. After all, everyone eats it, right? So, it must be healthful. They wouldn’t sell us unhealthy food just to make a profit, would they?

Health statistics for Americans don’t look so good. Many retire for health reasons living their last years in and out of the hospital. Why would this be? From my own research, I discovered it’s the food we eat that makes us healthy or not. So, once we get this knowledge and a little willpower, we can begin changing our unhealthful eating habits to those which are health giving.

Why I eat berries…

  • Berries reduce risk of heart attack
  • They also protect your blood vessels
  • When you get older this will be comforting
  • Berries have a higher nutrient content than other fruits
  • I eat blueberries, blackberries and strawberries

‘Fruits, such as berries, contain polyphenol compounds purported to have anti-inflammatory activity in humans. Among the most notable polyphenols in berries are anthocyanins, responsible for their distinctive colors of red, blue, and purple. Berries have been studied widely for their antioxidant properties; however, preclinical data suggest important effects on inflammatory pathways [1 ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24512603]’.

When I changed my diet I lost weight, my blood pressure went way down and I immediately began to feel healthier. It is likely I will live longer than I would if I had not changed my lifestyle and old ingrained eating habits. How I eat, here.
