I have always loved the pungent taste of broccoli. But, I was introduced to it in those boiling bags smothered in cheese sauce. Sometimes, the health benefits of what you eat are neutralized by something added that is way too salty and oily. How do we fix this?
The healthiest way I know to eat broccoli is of course raw, say dipped in hummus. Realistically, most of us prefer it cooked. Lightly steamed is the best way, and it doesn’t take that long. For example, I steam it for about five minutes on the stove and judge its ‘done-ness’ by its color.
‘The organosulfur chemicals namely glucosinolates and the S-methyl cysteine sulphoxide found in broccoli in concert with other constituents such as vitamins E, C, K and the minerals such as iron, zinc, selenium and the polyphenols namely kaempferol, quercetin glucosides and isorhamnetin are presumably responsible for various health benefits of broccoli [1 ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19519500]’.

I cut its stems with a knife to test it because my wife likes it cooked ‘perfectly’. When I take it off the heat and set it on the counter for a minute, it’s done. That’s how I do it and it seems to work out exactly the same every time.
She picks out half of what she wants, then I get what’s left and throw it in my potato big bowl. Since I am the appointed cook in the kitchen, I like doing things simply. That’s how I eat…
And, it’s simple foods like our daily green smoothie, berries, beans, potatoes, rice, tofu, onions, corn, red peppers and mushrooms. What’s wrong with that? They keep me healthy and my weight stable. An essential ingredient for a happy life is in having a healthy body. Wouldn’t you agree?
