Dr. Norman Walker Health, Weight Loss and Longevity Pioneer

I wanted to pay homage to one of my first informational sources concerning health, weight loss and longevity. This was way before the internet, that when you wanted to do your research, you had to go to your local library or bookstore and buy a book. Now, information is at your keyboard.

First of all, this man lived almost 100 years on this earth. Some say he was older than that. So, there is controversy as to how long he really lived.

I used to own all of Dr. Walker’s books. He was a big influence. Unfortunately, somehow, they all got lost through the years. But, I remember he got me interested in eating differently during the time I was overweight, and didn’t have any energy over thirty years ago.

I did juice my own vegetable juice daily over twenty years ago. I bought a cheap juicer, that wasn’t very powerful, but it worked adequately. I sometimes made smoothies, too. Currently, I make only a green smoothie everyday that has more nutritious ingredients.

I don’t juice, but instead eat raw and cooked plant based whole food. For me, I believe chewing extracts nutrients adequately. I don’t think we need to get fancier than that and go out and buy an expensive juice extractor. After all, teeth were made for chewing, that is, if you still have them.

Dr. Walker advocated eating a diet of fresh raw fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds. He advised against cooking food, and eating dairy products and meat. I do remember he used egg yolk, a little cottage cheese, Swiss cheese, unheated honey and raw cream. He also recommended not eating bread, pasta, rice and sugar.

He wrote a lot about keeping the colon clean by regular colonic irrigation or more commonly known as enema. He believed disease most often starts in the colon beginning with constipation which would generate toxemia.

‘White flour products, bread, cakes, crackers, and the like, are neither constructive nor
regenerative. Therefore they have no place whatever in the achievement of VIBRANT

Because of the old record keeping, there is controversy about where and when he earned or was awarded his educational qualifications in the field of health and diet.

‘All vegetables and fruits, when raw, contain all of the carbohydrate sugars and the proteins
required by the body. These are present in very minute but ample quantities, while water is
