Wait A Minute! Who ‘Proved’ Olive Oil Was So Healthy? What I Found…

Some health authorities promote the idea of using quite a lot of olive oil, others not. And, as soon as I started using olive oil again, sure enough, I got inflammation. But, it happens when I eat anything with refined oil. For example, corn chips and potato chips, both my favorite.

I would be careful what I believe simply because a doctor tells you. Why? If one doctor tells you something is good to eat, another one will tell you quite the opposite. But, the question is, which expert do you believe? And, who is the final ‘authority’? Furthermore, whatever one says is healthy, they tend to sell on their website.

‘Recommendations to substitute monounsaturated fatty acids for polyunsaturated fatty acids or a low-fat carbohydrate diet seem premature without more research into the effects on the development of atherosclerosis. Current opinions favoring monounsaturated fatty acids are based on epidemiological data and risk factor analysis, but are questioned by the demonstrated detrimental effects on atherosclerosis in animal models [1 ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12544660]’.

I have learned the human body has no need for oils rich in monounsaturated fat or especially saturated fat. Our bodies require very little oil, less than 5%. The average American diet contains much higher fat. There is oil in every plant based whole food in amounts that are healthy. But, you have to watch the high fat ones like eating too many avocados, seeds and nuts.

‘Research has proven olive oil healthier than butter and margarine. That’s like comparing which is better; dying from a stroke or heart attack…’? ~ your author

We only require polyunsaturated fatty acids omega 6 and omega 3, but not too much of the omega 6 because it tends to be inflammatory. Olive oil is low in omega 3. It’s best to get our ‘fatty acids’ from natural sources like flax seed and nuts.

Researchers learned monkeys who eat high fat and cholesterol diets develop atherosclerosis just like humans do. We are almost genetically exact to the great apes. But, did they feed the apes pure olive oil?

‘To be sure you are getting 100% olive oil, why not simply eat a few olives each day. No ‘second guessing’ there as to whether the oil is fake or not…’? ~ your author

It’s misleading when they say olive oil is healthy for our hearts because it has lots of polyphenols and plant sterols. All plant foods are loaded with plenty of polyphenols and sterols without the calories of oil. Did you know that oil has twice the calories of carbs? Oil calories are empty calories.

Olive oil does not lower bad cholesterol and raise the good like frequently said, and the healthiest longest lived people on the face of the earth eat lots of beans, vegetables, fruits and grains. They don’t use lots of oil to cook with and drizzle it on their meals.
