I don’t know about you, but when I got older I recognized why I felt so lousy when younger. I discovered my problem was what I drank and ate. I have found nutritional quality of food to be a powerful health mechanism.
I have tried to pinpoint pain causing food for years, because I had Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms. There are foods we commonly eat because they are part of tradition and culture which may be culprit to various aches and pains, even life threatening conditions and disease…
- Fried foods
- White flour and other processed grains like bread
- Sugar and high fructose corn syrup
- Fast food
- High purine foods like beer, sardines, pork and turkey
- Restaurants have lots of sugar, oil and salt in food
- Processed and refined foods
- Vegetable oils
When one eats meat it can cause inflammation. Why is this so? Your body can’t tell the difference between the meat and your tissues and attacks itself. It’s called inflammation caused by immune system response.
‘Make your own food. Only then, you know what’s in it…’
What else helps is that I ‘pressure cook’ nightshade vegetables like potatoes and tomatoes. Eggplant, bell peppers, hot peppers, the spice paprika and hot sauces can also cause inflammation because of an alkaloid called solanine.
Nuts and seeds that have predominant amounts of Omega 6 are also inflammatory. For example, legumes like peanuts & cashews even soy sauce (and, soy products in general) set me on fire. Also, pistachios tend to make me ache all over in my muscles and joints.
‘What went wrong? I don’t know… I got older and my body became more sensitive to certain food and drink’
Another example of inflammatory foods are chips. When I eat potato chips or corn chips I know what I am in store for. They are made with refined oils like corn, sunflower and safflower high in Omega 6. One of my feet swells and gets inflamed the very next day.
Be sure to see your doctor first if you think you have anything wrong with you. Maybe, you are lucky and your doctor knows plant based whole food can cure. But, often they prescribe a pill that masks symptoms, instead.
Frustrated patients on medication, may eventually look elsewhere for a ‘real’ cure. As for me, all those mysterious aches and pains led me to eating mostly intact fruit, vegetables, a few seeds, beans, lentils, salad greens, potatoes and rice.
Note- consult your doctor before you change your diet. How I eat, here.
