Good food: In the ‘produce’ isle, not the meat counter

What is good food? Or, what food is good for you? There are people who seem healthy who eat everything they want, don’t see a doctor and don’t gain a pound. I am not one of those lucky ones.

There are many foods we have been told by the media and elsewhere that’s good for us. Yet, I have found good food is usually alkaline in pH and the bad is often acidic. Our bodies lean to slightly alkaline.

I figured out through my own research that wheat and most all grain could not stay on my menu. See why, here. I have a few basic tips for choosing good food. The foods below is not in my opinion, real food. This is my conclusion based upon many hours of research into health and weight loss.

  • Avoid refined sugar (especially fructose) and honey (you must read labels for hidden ingredients)
  • Don’t eat anything with grain or flour (crackers, snacks and junk food)
  • No processed oils (like olive oil, etc.)
  • No processed foods because they contain additives, preservatives and other hidden ingredients like flour and sugar which makes you gain weight, raise blood sugar and give you cavities
  • Forget animal products (meat, dairy, fish, chicken, etc.)

The list above is a good rule of thumb to go by for best health and losing weight. What’s left to eat? Plant based whole foods like fruits and vegetables. Eating like this is more of an alkaline diet. You will avoid acid forming foods that cause conditions like acid reflux and create the perfect breeding ground for cancers.

You know, we don’t know what harm GMO’s can bring. There are no studies and the companies producing that kind of food aren’t going to willingly do studies to see if it’s going to harm us consumers. We have to wait and see and not be their guinea pigs. But, GMO’s in grain are consumed by cattle. It will be in their meat as well as milk products.

Therefore, you can stick to eating most organic GMO free fruits, green vegetables, spices (herbs and seasonings,) peas, beans, lentils, seeds and nuts. Severely limit or entirely exclude acid forming foods: like meat, grains, fish, poultry, eggs (you might have to eat smaller portions of legumes like beans and lentils because they tend to be acidic.)

Note- before you change your diet contact your doctor.
