If you want to know what the best high fiber diet is, you don’t have to look any further than your grocery store’s produce aisle. There is nothing with more fiber in it than fruits and vegetables. It’s the ultimate source. Did you know that fiber is an essential nutrient? It’s not in dairy or meat nor in any other animal product.
It’s easy to be tricked about fiber. For example, granola bars and cold cereals claim they have a lot of fiber. But, it’s better to go eat something unrefined and unprocessed. The answer is a diet of plant based whole food.
Therefore, if you just have to eat something made out of grain (of which I don’t recommend because of leaky gut syndrome and more,) eat whole rolled or steel cut oats, instead of something where you open a package and add hot water to a powdered grain that’s loaded with salt, sugar, additives and preservatives.
Fiber is the safety valve. For example, it is a better choice eating fruit rather than drinking its juice. Without fiber, your blood sugar will skyrocket and then plunge. This isn’t healthy. When you eat a piece of fruit, it’s not only not addictive like sugary drinks like sodas, you won’t over eat it.
Now, this is the best I can explain it as far as drinking fruit smoothies goes. When you chew fruit the fructose is bound to fiber and absorption is slower and harmless. But, the danger comes when fruit is pulverized in a blender.
This is when the fructose is separated from the fiber and sugar absorption becomes more rapid through the stomach. This much increased absorption rate is liable to injure the liver, also injuring the endothelial cells (the inside lining of the arteries causing cardiovascular and heart disease.)
The fiber within ‘chewed’ fruit slows sugar absorption into the blood stream. You can eat all you want and the fiber will make you feel full and content. It’s hard to overeat fruits and vegetables, but it’s easy to open a box of snack or junk food and eat the whole box in one sitting! Just ask me, it’s what I used to do. Who can eat just one? Not me!
A high fiber diet with adequate water intake will keep your digestive system running and healthy and also may reduce your risk of obesity, heart disease and diabetes. Fiber is a type of carbohydrate the body can’t digest.
Carbs are broken down into sugar molecules while fiber cannot, with it passing through the body undigested. Fiber helps to regulate the use of sugar by ones body while keeping you feeling full and satisfied and your blood sugar in check.
And, as for constipation; can you say two words? bye! bye! All you need now are a few fiber filled recipes. I add one every chance I get. Fruit, vegetables, potatoes, rice, beans; what else is there? This is all I eat. I am almost 66 and am doing quite well. Try it, you just might like much improved health, weight loss and living a longer life span!
Note- consult your doctor before you change your diet.
