How many calories to lose weight? On this particular site I visited, I discovered that to lose weight and keep it off I needed no more than 2000 calories a day. You will require more or less. Everyone’s different because of their activity level and other factors.
My wife required slightly less @ 1800 each day. It’s worth signing up to learn what your number is because you then will have a guideline.
Once you have adopted a whole food plant based diet, you don’t really have to count calories to make sure you don’t go over. More accurately, it’s like you have to count them to be sure you get enough of them. For example, if your body lacks enough calories, you might crave eating fatty foods like Avocados, Seeds, Nuts and/or processed carbohydrates like greasy salty potato chips, bread and crackers.
Reduce Seeds, Nuts, Avocados to a new low and Eliminate Oil Entirely
Nuts and Seeds aren’t especially good for your Cardiovascular health in large quantities. Only a small handful (if that) every day is more than enough. If you don’t have any heart problems and your cholesterol levels are in check, go ahead and have an Avocado once in a while.
But, know that fat has little nutritive value having no minerals. Oil contains no fiber and is 100% fat calories. It doesn’t matter if it’s corn oil, coconut oil, canola oil, olive oil, or any other type. Oil is Oil. Eliminate it entirely from your diet. Furthermore, the fat you eat is goanna be the fat you wear. As we already know, Fat is the highest in calories.
Nevertheless, any type of processed Oil can cause damage to the Endothelium. This is the innermost lining of the artery. Injury to it will likely be the beginning of vascular disease. Therefore, get your Omega 3 fatty acids from green leafy vegetables and absolutely not from eating deep fried foods like French fries.
My Scale Got Stuck @ 185 lbs.
I got stuck around 185 lbs. when I first began losing the pounds on a whole food plant based diet.
I found myself eating handfuls of seeds and nuts from bags. That’s why you should buy them with the shell. You have to work really hard to eat many that way.
I also got the snack food cravings because I wasn’t eating enough fruit and pounded down whole grain bread, tortilla chips, corn tortillas, potato chips, and cold cereal.
I don’t recommend anyone eat these processed foods, especially if you are having trouble losing weight. Making grain into flour increases the surface area tending to make you gain weight when you eat too much of it.
Grains are not Good for You no matter how many times they say it
Now, I stay away from most grains no matter whole or processed. All grains have their own Gluten (a protein like Gliadin in Wheat) and potentially cause problems in the small intestines like gut permeability. This is called Leaky Gut Syndrome which causes an immune response.
This means possible systematic inflammation and autoimmune disease. There is a long list of autoimmune diseases that will probably surprise you. How we eat is very important to how we feel making the difference between good or poor health.
Examples of Inflammatory Diseases
- Asthma
- Allergies
- Alzheimer’s
- Autism
- Arthritis
- Celiac
- Chrohn’s disease
- Eczema
- Gall Bladder Disease
- Gerd
- Heart Attack
- Kidney Failure
- Psoriasis
- Stroke
- Diabetes
- And, many more…
Grain is deficient nutritionally. That’s why they add vitamins and minerals to processed cereal. Despite the lack of nutrition, I do eat two grains. One of which is Potato and the other Brown Rice. I feel they are the safest. I personally need the bulk. It makes me feel satisfied and full. Yet, I don’t eat grains like Wheat, Corn, Barley, Oats, Quinoa, Millet, Rye or any of the not so well known. I don’t eat any Soy products, either. I leave most grains to those stomachs better designed for its assimilation: Cattle, Pigs and Horses.
Conclusion
If you happen to find yourself eating too much of the snack foods, you likely are not eating enough fruit for calories. So, we have to retrain ourselves when we reach for the sugary, fatty and salty snacks.
Substitute a piece of fruit like a Banana, as soon as you get cravings for the bad stuff. And, if you falter, make sure you eat fruit after the bad so it helps to counteract it somewhat. You can eat as much fruit as you want and never get addicted.
