There are a few rules to follow in how to become a vegetarian. Becoming a vegetarian will likely bring benefits. It will probably make you lose weight while improving your health. You may also live to a healthy ripe old age. You may have a variety of reasons for wanting to become a vegan or vegetarian.
You may have tried every diet in the world and this is the last straw. Something someone said, or a public TV program may have sparked your interest into vegetarianism and what it actually is. Maybe, you wondered exactly what a whole food plant based diet was.
Honestly, being a vegetarian can be as unhealthy or unhealthier than eating meat. Yes, I said it. You have seen many vegetarians and probably didn’t even know they were. They held a soft drink in one hand and a bag of chips in the other. You might have seen them buying coffee and getting a doughnut at your local doughnut shop. Guess what? That’s vegetarian, too.
There are vegetarian restaurants that aren’t as healthy as they could be. Actually, it doesn’t matter which restaurant you choose. They are all laden with salt, sugar and fat to make the food taste better. In other words, you choose Asian, Italian, French, American, even Mexican and guess what? They have huge amounts of salt, sugar and oil in them. That’s what makes their menu tasty.
How do you get around all this? I don’t really know any way you can, unless you prepare all your meals yourself. It’s the only way anyone can know what’s in the food they are planning to eat
Even though restaurant say their foods are low sugar, salt and fat, how can you really know if it really is? And, by what standard? All those numbers and grams of this and that and calories get confusing. You don’t need to bring a calculator with you. You just need to eat a whole food plant based diet. And, you prepare it yourself at home. You will be glad you did when you see the pounds melt off, feel better, look great and get healthier in general.
Personally, we avoid eating out. That’s the only way I can know for sure I am eating wholesome food. We make everything ourselves. But, I eat a very simple whole food plant based diet. It’s a no-brainer. But, I do add salt and pepper and spices to taste to my foods, though. If the food doesn’t taste good, you won’t eat it. So, use spices, but use them as sparingly as you can.
