What should I eat: Here’s your healthy food list

What should I eat? I would focus upon nutritional quality of the food itself. In other words, learn which foods are highest in nutrients and those with empty calories. When you are young and healthy, you don’t think so much about your health and what you eat. But, if you could die from eating peanuts, you would absolutely want to read all food ingredient labels thoroughly.

We all want to eat the way we’ve always eaten, and that has a lot to do with your culture. You eat what your country eats. We also look for the reasons we can keep on doing those things we know aren’t good for us. We treat ourselves with bad treats as rewards when we know we’re going to feel lousy afterwards or even gain a few pounds because of it.

At first, you might feel like you are being deprived of all the pizza, hamburgers, beer and potato chips. But, meat substitutes with soy protein isn’t a good choice, either. And, if you have others around you who think your new whole food diet of mainly fruits and vegetables is a bunch of nonsense, you have a lot going against you.

If you hang tight and give this diet a chance, after a while eating 
plant based whole food, you get used to it and look forward to your 
meals. You use spices, salt, pepper and a little sugar to make the 
food taste good, but you don't overdo it. We want our food to taste 
good or we will likely slip back to our old unhealthy eating ways.

I would say, if you want to lose weight and get healthier I would eat more high fiber nutrient rich foods below…

  • Fruits like strawberries, blackberries and blueberries (add colors)
  • Vegetables like green leafy salads and steamed broccoli (add colors)
  • Add roasted (only a few) seeds or nuts on top of salad
  • Eat beans like pinto (protein and complex carbs)
  • Lentils (protein and complex carbs)
  • Brown rice (complex carbs)
  • Baked potatoes (fiber, iodine, potassium, etc.)
  • Drink filtered water
  • Keep active physically and mentally
  • Lose weight
  • Get ready for weight loss, lower blood pressure and generally better health!

Eat less, but preferably none of the empty calorie low nutrient foods below…

  • No processed oils
  • Avoid processed grain products having flour like pasta and bread
  • Exclude all meat
  • Omit dairy
  • Never drink Sugary beverages, candy and pastries
