When I lost 50 pounds, I didn’t gain a single pound back. It’s something I don’t have to worry about anymore. Why? Because when one eats plant based whole food, he doesn’t have to count calories.
There are though a few exceptions to the rule I have experienced. One needs to limit nuts, seeds and avocados because of fat content. Furthermore, he must limit eating processed and refined foods to keep his weight stabilized and better health maintained.
‘Did you know fat has more than twice as many calories as carbs (Carbs are 4 calories per gram, fat 9 calories.) Something to keep in mind…’
What kept me stuck losing weight was refined carbohydrate foods like chips, crackers, cookies, bread and tortillas. What saved me was eating more beans, rice and potatoes. This is ‘resistant starch food’ that gives long lasting energy. Because of this, I no longer ‘crave’ sweets.
‘You will always be tempted to eat the old snacks and junk food. Maybe, one cheat day a week is in order? Don’t go to the store hungry, for your stomach takes over your mind’
In the beginning eating plant based whole food you may not eat enough of the right food. In other words, you can’t live on salads. If you need 1800-2000 a day, salads alone won’t do. Furthermore, fruit alone doesn’t cut it. You need potatoes, rice and beans. These are real foods that ‘stick to your ribs’.
‘I assure you that you will ‘backslide’ to eating unhealthy snacks. There isn’t large support eating 80-90% plant based whole food. If you do eat that amount, like me you will be in the minority. You might want to find a few new friends who will support your brand new lifestyle…’
I have plenty of posts citing validated scientific research as to which foods are health-giving and not.
‘A small handful of seeds and nuts a day does it’
For example, I’ve written numerous articles about extra virgin olive oil. I hear some of the so called experts say a little wine is good for you. Another untruth. You want ‘polyphenols’ from extra virgin olive oil and red wine? Eat olives and red or purple grapes, instead.
‘Of course, there are those medical professionals recommending EVOO for better health. But, have you read the statistics? Doctors are the third leading cause of death. Take a look at their website and see what they sell. If there is bias, you will see it there…’
There are trim people, but that in itself does not guarantee health. Processed foods are loaded with sugar, salt and oil. When you eat plant based whole food, you know exactly what you are eating. People around the world who eat that way are trim, healthy and live the longest.
Note- consult your doctor before you change your diet.
